The Dashboard Properties Connections Tab allows you to define whether your query will refresh against the default connection, a specified alternative connection or against multiple connections.

 

This last option, to refresh a query against multiple connections, allows users to construct dashboards that collate data across multiple installations of an application. A column is automatically added to the query results containing the connection name.

The available connection options are:

 

Refresh the selected queries against the default connection.

Selecting this option, which is the default, causes the selected queries to refresh against the default connection for the system as defined in the System Wizard - Enter Connection Details screen.

 

Refresh the selected queries against the connection selected below.

Selecting this option, enables the list of available connections for the system used by the query, in single select mode. You can then select which connection the query should refresh against.

 

 

 

Refresh the selected queries against multiple connections selected below.

Selecting this option, enables the list of available connections for the system used by the query, in multi-select mode. You can then select which connections the query should refresh against.

 

When multiple connections are selected, these will all refresh concurrently, meaning good performance can still be achieved even when collating data across a significant number of connections.

A column, named as specified above, is automatically added to the query results.

 

This column can then be used, as any other, for filtering sorting, grouping etc.
